The West Cumbria Game Fair

Welcome to Cumbria, a land of plenty,

full of excitement and adventure.

The beautiful county of Cumbria offers many fantastic opportunities to participate in and enjoy hunting, shooting, fishing and many more outdoor activities throughout the year.

To celebrate this, we’re hosting  the first of, we hope many, Game Fairs in West Cumbria. If you enjoy traditional countryside pursuits or have always wanted to give it ‘a go’, we would be delighted for you to join us, on this our very first West Cumbria Game Fair.

The event will be hosted over the weekend 14th and 15th July 2012, at the prestigious Armathwaite Hall.

This will be a festival of all that is great about the Cumbrian countryside, the people and their pastimes – clay pigeon & airgun shooting, fly & rod fishing, field archery, working dogs demonstrations and competitions, fabulous locally sourced foods, woodland skills, bushcraft and much more.

You, your family and friends, will have the opportunity to test your skills and abilities, in many of the counties most popular country pursuits. If you have a competitive spirit, you really should give it a go. You could bag yourselves some exciting prizes!!!  If you are new to game sports, why not come and try them out. There’ll be experts and professionals to safely show you how.

What’s on

The West Cumbria Game Fair where it’s all happening!

We have worked hard to make sure there is something for everyone. Whether  the countryside, country sports and competitions play a major role in your life or indeed, if this is all new to you and you would like to find out more.

On both Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th July you’ll have the chance to watch, listen and learn, all about the countryside and how best to enjoy it. There’ll be talks and demonstrations on shooting, fishing, woodland crafts, dog handling and more. These will be given by the region’s leading countrymen and women.

Get some hands on experience and ‘have a GO!’ Take part in taster sessions and learn from the experts on site. You may find an as yet undiscovered passion and ability! Or you can develop your existing skills under the watchful eye of the professionals.

You’ll have the chance to see artisan craftsmen using the wealth of the countryside to build and create at the Woodland Crafts area. Watch traditional skills in action like dry stone walling, coppicing and charcoal making, all still flourishing today.

If you’re bringing young ones, make sure you take advantage of the free entry to Trotters World of Animals, next door. With over 100 species of animals and birds, exciting feedings times and falconry displays, a visit there makes a great day out even better.

Once you’ve built up an appetite, head on over to the Taste of Game village and get your teeth into delicious foods and refreshing drinks from across the county.

Whether you’re a local or a visitor, young or old, an experienced hand or complete novice, the West Cumbria Game Fair is a fantastic day out and a great way of getting closer to the countryside.

Armathwaite Hall sits on the shores of the majestic Bassenthwaite Lake, on the northern reaches of the beautiful Lake District and not far from the stunning Cumbrian coastline. For anyone from outside the county, that’s left off Junction 40 of the M6, then due west along the A66, just past Keswick. It’s not that far really.
